What is RAID 50?

RAID 50 combines multiple RAID 5 arrays with RAID 0. Striping helps to increase capacity and perfromance without adding disks to each RAID 5 array.

RAID 50 is the result of RAID 0 striping across lower level RAID 5 arrays.

In a RAID 50 only 67% to 94% (depending on the number of disks) of the storage capacity is usable.
