What
is RAID 6?
RAID
6 is an extension beyond RAID 5 because it allows up to two disks
to fail before data becomes irrecoverable. Data is striped across
several disks and dual parity is used to store and recover data.
RAID 6 requires a minimum of four disks and a maximum of 16 disks.
RAID 6 is similar to RAID 5 but includes a second parity scheme
that is distributed across different disks.
The
capacity of a RAID 6 is the smallest hard drive capacity muliplied
by the number of disks in the array minus two disks for parity. |
